Abstract

Subcarrier multiplexing is a useful access technique in lightwave CATV systems. In addition, erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA) offer the promise of improved limited optical loss margins, making it possible to distribute the signals by passively dividing an amplified signal. Recently, EDFA-based am CATV distribution systems have been demonstrated (for example, see Ref. 1).
