Abstract

This paper describes the design, fabrication, and performance of an optical power delivery system which can provide electrical power via a single optical fiber to a remote electronic circuit such as a rf preamplifier for a fiber optic link. This was accomplished by fabricating a novel high efficiency AlGaAs/GaAs photovoltaic cell and fiber optic couplers which were combined with high power matched wavelength (0.814-μm) semiconductor lasers and low loss optical fiber cables. The generated electrical power (4 V, 0.25 A) represents a significant advance in power-by-light application.
