Abstract

Although coherent optical communication systems are expected to perform better than direct detection systems due to their higher receiver sensitivity and frequency selectivity, these systems are not yet fully evolved to a practical form. This is mainly because of the stringent requirements on lasers and the complexities added in the receiver.
