Abstract

Er3+ doped fiber can be used as an amplifier at 1.55 µm for long distance high-bit-rate transmission systems.1 The optimization of fiber structure as well as pump source is important in fabricating an efficient amplifier. A fiber with a small-mode field is preferred to enhance pump intensity in the fiber.
