Abstract
The Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) is the major annual North American Conference on the technology and use of optical fibers. OFC’89 is the twelfth in a series of meetings that originated in Williamsburg, Virginia, in 1975. The OFC conferences are sponsored and organized jointly by the Optical Society of America (OSA) and the Lasers and Electro-Optics Society of the IEEE (LEOS). Concurrent with OFC’89 is the Integrated and Guided-Wave Optics Conference (IGWO’89) preceded by Topical Meetings on Nonlinear Guided-Wave Phenomena: Physics and Applications and Numerical Simulation and Analysis in Guided-Wave Optics and Optoelectronics. An IEEE-sponsored Symposium on Standards is being held immediately after OFC’89. The co-location of these conferences and meetings is intended to foster closer interaction between researchers in these various fields.
