Abstract
This paper presents results of an experimental study of the distribution and magnitude of timing jitter associated with high-bit-rate pseudorandom word modulation of semiconductor lasers.1-3 Six 1.3-μm channeled substrate buried heterostructure multifrequency lasers and one 1.3-μm double-channeled planar buried heterostructure distributed feedback (DFB) laser were studied. Each laser was operated at 25°C at 1-Gbit/s pseudorandom word modulation, and the timing jitter was measured with the laser biased at 4 mA above and below threshold, respectively.
