Abstract
Optical fibres are provided with UV-curing acrylates as coating material. However, these materials are not capable of preventing optical losses due to H2 absorption, neither can they prevent strength degradation of the fibre due to static fatigue. It is known [1] that amorphous carbon layers applied to the fibre prior to acrylate coating can form the hermetic coating required.
