Abstract

It has been demonstrated that high-performance IMSM photodetectors can be fabricated on the same wafer with high-performance LSI GaAs MESFET circuitry.1 Recently we extended this work to include the integration of a complete optical receiver and clock recovery circuit on a single chip with no external components. We present some results on the 1-Gbit/s fiber-optic receiver portion of this chip. The receiver includes a transimpedance preamplifier, four stages of gain, a decision circuit, and an automatic level control circuit to set auomatically the decision level at the receiver input (Fig. 1).
