Abstract

The distribution of voice, data, and video services to the subscriber is one of the next major steps In the evolution of optical fiber communication systems. Although a completely switched all-digital subscriber network has been proposed,1 at present the high cost of the digital electronics and the large data rates required for each video channel make such systems difficult to justify economically.
