Abstract

An empirical evaluation of profile variations in a MCVD optical waveguide fiber has previously indicated the relative effects of center dip, layering perturbations, and various core-clad interface designs on multimode transmission bandwidth.1 As in earlier work,2 an exact numerical solution of Maxwell's equations has been implemented extending the characterization of effects of a purely oscillatory layer structure on modal propagation in a multimode optical waveguide which has been investigated previously.3-5
