Abstract
An interlaboratory measurement comparison to determine an effective cutoff wavelength and mode field diameter of a single-mode fiber was conducted by the National Bureau of Standards in cooperation with the Electronic Industries Association (EIA). Participants include NBS, several U.S. manufacturers, and some foreign laboratories. The purpose of the comparisons is to gather Information on interlaboratory agreement when the same measurement techniques are used and to determine systematic offsets between different techniques. The various procedures tested are currently pending before the EIA and represent current practice for manufacturers.1
