Compact optical transmitters are in demand for use in subscriber networks, interoffice trunks, LANs, and CATV systems, because the taps of the optical communication loops must be small. For this purpose, the electronic circuits are integrated into a SI LSI which results in a small driving circuit.1 However, the LD modules used in transmitter boards are still large because the framework for optical coupling between a fiber and a laser diode must be sturdy.
