Abstract
Single-mode fibers are a very attractive delay medium because of their extremely wide bandwidth and low loss. For moving target detection applications, a delay line with a bandwidth exceeding 1 GHz and a delay time of the order of 1 msec are necessary.1 Such a long delay time can be achieved by recirculating the signal around the fiber many times. A fiber-optic delay line capable of delaying a 200-Mbit/sec signal has been reported.2 In this paper, we report on the design and performance of a single-mode fiber recirculating delay line capable of handling analog signals with bandwidth exceeding 1 GHz.
