Abstract

This paper describes in detail a transmission system using single-mode optical fiber technology and wavelength division multiplexing which allows six digitized video signals to be transported with studio quality over more than 20 km without a repeater. The terminal equipment developed includes the analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters for the individual video signals, the electronic multiplexing equipment, the optical transmitters and receivers, timing recovery circuitry, and the wavelength multiplexer and demultiplexer for 1.2- and 1.3-μm optical signals.
