Abstract
Work on coupled-cavity lasers, either of the etched-groove1,2 or cleaved3 (C3) variety, has shown that electronically tunable single-wavelength sources can be obtained by adding a simple processing step after a preferred laser structure is grown. Such sources are desired for long-haul high-data-rate transmission systems in the 1.3- 1.6-μm range.
