Abstract

Delay equalization was noted by Eve1 who postulated a model τ2=τ12+τ22+2r12τ1τ2 to explain the behavior ot concatenated fiber modal dispersion. Equalization has been analyzed by Galeati et al.,2 but it remains to find a systematic footing for practical exploitation. An alternative model for practical purposes is = , and in seeking a basis for optical system design, leading to economy In use of fiber without risk to system performance, values of y less than unity have been proposed.
