Abstract
The prediction of fiber link end-to-end dispersion based upon measurements of individual fibers is essential for optimum system design. A number of theoretical papers have addressed this problem,1 but reported experimental results are limited2 and usually involve complex fiber characterization.3 In this paper the position of a high dispersion fiber was varied within a 10-km link of relatively low dispersion fibers, and the fiber baseband responses as measured individually and as measured in situ within the links were compared. It was possible to compute the link response by simple addition of the individual fiber responses.
