Abstract
An optical gyroscope should be arranged to operate at its maximum sensitivity, usually termed its quadrature point, at small rotation rates1 This can be achieved with a π/2 phase bias.2 Here we describe a guided-wave electrooptic device, which produces a time-dependent π/2 phase delay, so that by appropriate pulsed operation a π/2 nonreciprocal phase bias can be induced between the counter- propagating beams.
