Abstract

Applications of optical fibers are rapidly growing not only under normal environments but also under severe environments such as high temperature, high pressure, high electromagnetic field, and high irradiation. An antithermal or fire-resistant optical cable has wide applicability, considering that optical cables may encounter a fire or they may be installed near a heat source in industrial plants. This paper reports the transmission characteristics of optical fibers at high temperatures for the purpose of realizing antithermal cables.
