Abstract
A potential compact solid-state source of coherent tunable far infrared (FIR) radiation is based on difference frequency mixing of the beams of two temperature-tuned semiconductor lasers. Anticipating that suitable high-pulse-power (≲ 1-W) lasers will become available in the near future, we have investigated the phase-matched mixing process in a planar LiNbO3 waveguide.
