Abstract
It should be reasonable that the steady-state optical power distribution (SSD) is used for the standard measurement of the transmission characteristics of multimode optical fibers or their connection loss, since power distribution at the receiving end can be practically regarded as SSD in optical transmission systems.1 However, no quantitative discussions seem to have occurred on how to form SSD in the fiber and on the measurement reproducibility. The purpose of this contribution is to offer designing data for forming the SSD that give enough accuracy on the measurement of connection loss for graded-index fibers (1.8 < α < 2.2).
