Consequences of Dirac-like Cone Dispersions in Optics

Abstract

We show that photonic crystals with accidental-degeneracy-induced conical dispersions at k=0 derived from monopole and dipole excitations can serve as a “classical system” with zero-refractive-index and a “quantum system” with pseudo-spin 1.
