Abstract
We present a new 3-axis optical pickup actuator, which can compensate for the tilt variation of an optical disc to cope with high-density and high-speed rewritable system such as CD/DVD and/or HD-DVD system. We design simplified 3-axis actuating system and improve the driving sensitivity using multi-polar magnetization of Nd-Fe-B sintered magnet. The various numerical analyses are performed and several samples are actually tested. From comparing simulated data with experimental results, we verify the accuracy of the analysis results and the superiority of new 3-axis actuator. Additionally, we apply this 3-axis actuator to our pickup system for DVD±RW Combo Drive. The improved jitter curve and eye pattern graph in response to tilt variation prove the effectiveness of the presented method.
