Uniform illumination with a band-limited diffuser in volume holographic storage system

Abstract

A method of uniform illumination for the volume holographic page-oriented storage system is proposed based on a speckle modulation technique by using a band-limited diffuser. The special diffuser is placed at a distance before the object plane. And the illumination light on the object plane is random and even. Furthermore, rotating the diffuser can also help to reduce the speckle noise and smooth the spectrum. The experimental results are given and it is shown that this method can improve the signal-to-noise ratio of the stored pages.
