Abstract

Symmetric Multiprocessing (SMP) systems may be limited not by processor speed but by interconnection network capabilities. This paper proposes an optical implementation of a class of Scalable Optical Crossbar Networks (SOCN) for symmetric multiprocessing computers. The SOCN class network allows high bandwidth, low latency interconnections between SMP clusters.
