Abstract

A pulsed-pump technique reduces inter-pulse ASE and increases the amplifier efficiency in a low-repetition rate Yb-doped fiber amplifier. A 10 dB improvement in the SNR and a 4 dB improvement of the amplifier efficiency are demonstrated at a repetition rate of 0.5 kHz relative to that of a cw pumped amplifier.
