Abstract

The Erbium-doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) has transformed the field of optical communications and the telecommunications industry which it serves. Due to the growth in internet and data traffic, the demand for the bandwidth offered by dense wavelength division multiplexed (DWDM) optical communications systems based on optical amplifier technology is exploding.
