Abstract

A new gain control technique based on monitoring backward ASE at 1532 nm is reported for long wavelength band erbium doped fiber amplifiers. Using this technique a gain flatness of 0.6dB/30nm is demonstrated experimentally over a dynamic input range of 10 dB.
