Abstract

Rare-earth-doped optical glass fibers have been considered for number of applications including optical amplifiers, lasers, and sensors. The early development of glass fiber lasers and amplifiers has concentrated mostly on a neodymium (Nd3+) -doped glass because of the high efficiency of Nd3+ ion as a laser material1.
