Abstract
Due to the relatively small absorption cross section of the pump transition of Pr3+ (3H4 → 1G4) in ZBLAN, the success of praseodymium-doped fluoride fiber amplifiers (PDFFA) depends strongly on the availability of high power pump sources. So far, three pump wavelengths have been employed: 980, 1017 and 1047 nm. The pump source in the case of 1047 nm pumping is a diode-pumped Nd:YLF-laser. The high output power of this source leads to amplifier designs suited for practical applications [1]
