Abstract
A prerequisite for a real world transition of CARS microscopy is a compact, reliable and cost effective laser source. Fiber lasers offer all of these features but, up to recently, lacked a simple scheme to generate the narrow band energy difference tunable photon pairs required for CARS microscopy. The recent development of four-wave mixing (FMW) based laser sources overcame this limitation providing close to optimal parameters in a fiber based format. With this approach we show the first all-fiber CARS laser which can be used as a plug and play add-on to existing laser based imaging setups.
