Abstract

Tm-doped Ta₂O₅ films, deposited on thermally oxidized silicon substrates, were etched to form rib waveguides. Optically pumped (793 nm) multimode lasing at 1.9 µm is demonstrated from bare facets, producing 24-mW output, 46% slope efficiency.
