Non-linear femtosecond laser pulse absorption at the surface of transparent dielectrics: an energy balance

Abstract

In dielectrics, nonlinear absorption of an ultrashort pulse turns quickly limited by a self-generated plasma mirror effect. Experimental establishment of energy balance demonstrates saturation of absorption and how it shapes the form of ablated craters.
