Abstract
We show that inclusion of nonlocality in the constitutive relations in photonic cystals has important repercussions in the polarization state behaviour of their electromagnetic modes; in the case of the optical activity, the primary manifestation of nonlocality, these can be related to a photospin-orbit coupling interaction analogous to the electron spin-orbit interaction in asymmetric semiconducting compounds with implications in photo-spin transport and photo-spintronics analogous to those conceived in electron spintronics.
