Non locality and nonlinearity for light localization in liquid crystals

Abstract

The nature of nematic liquid crystals is such that a reorientational nonlinearity inherently couples to a non-local response. Spatial solitons and transverse modulational instability intrinsically depend on this interplay. Recent advances on the subject are reviewed.
