Femtosecond all-optical switching in a lithium niobate directional coupler with cascaded nonlinearity

Abstract

We observed all-optical switching with femtosecond pulses in periodically-poled lithium niobate waveguide couplers. The contrast of the second-order nonlinear switching process was increased in waveguides with engineered nonuniformity of the wave-vector mismatch.
