Abstract

Enhancement of THz signal generated in nonlinear one-dimensional photonic band gap structures is studied theoretically. It is shown that due to arrangement of photonic band gap structures into superlattice with spatial period closed to THz signal wavelength, it is possible to increase intensity of generated THz signal more then two orders of magnitude compared with phase matched bulk material. It happens due to (i) non-phase matching enhancement and (ii) coherent composition of THz signals, generated from photonic band gap structures located in superlattice.
