SNR and BER Degradation of Upstream RFoG Signals Due to Accumulated RIN and Shot Noise of Off-State R-ONUs

Abstract

Recent SCTE presentations have suggested that the SNR power penalties can be greater than 7dB for off-state R-ONU power levels of -30dBm. Our experimental and modeling results show power penalties far smaller than this.
