Abstract

High-bandwidth services require faster long-haul transport networks. Meanwhile operators are not ready to make evolve significantly their fibre infrastructure based on PMD-limited G.652 fibre while they would like to upgrade the already deployed WDM systems by replacing progressively 10 Gbps wavelengths by 40 and 100 Gbps channels. Challenges of 40/100 Gbps deployments on legacy fibre and system infrastructure are discussed here.
