Abstract

The next generation home network (NgHN) will use the optical fiber for broadband communication with QoS (Quality of Service). The physical network configuration should be optimized considering total cable length, scalability, and reliability. Star and ring topologies are compared in terms of cable length; with or without hub and with a ring or multiple rings. These comparisons are based on a generalized house model. Expected future services for the NgHN and their requirements are also described and discussed.
