Abstract
We compare the performance of coherent binary-phase-shift-keying and incoherent differential-binary-phase-shift-keying formats in linear and nonlinear 40-Gb/s systems. We show that intra-channel nonlinear interactions severely degrade the coherent binary-phase-shift-keying performance in highly nonlinear systems.
