Abstract

This paper presents the concepts of Ethernet services transport from a carrier’s perspective. An overview of metro - Ethernet networks is presented, and possible technology migration paths are discussed, based on ITU - T GFP, VCat, LCAS, and IEEE 802. 17 RPR and IETF MPLS draft / protocols. Metro-Ethernet services are therefore defined according to their technology component enablers and related standards.
