Abstract

An ultra-compact photonic-crystal silicon Mach-Zehnder modulator is proposed based on the plasma dispersion effects. Transient time response of the device is simulated using semiconductor device simulator MEDICI. An efficient optical modulation has been experimentally demonstrated.
