Abstract
Knowledge of the structure of the Earth’s atmospheric turbulence is critical for astronomical adaptive optics well as optical communications. Here we present the state of the art Stereo-SCIDAR technique for night time profiling. This high-sensitivity and high-resolution optical turbulence profiler has been in regular operation on La Palma and Paranal. Here we present the instrument, statistics and comparisons with other profiling instruments and numerical forecast models in the context of AO.
