Abstract

We develop novel a simulation model which elucidates manifestation of mode instability in high power rare-earth doped fiber amplifiers. Step-wise power fraction of each mode is numerically calculated with Runge-Kutta method. Using the model, we observe not only the occurrence but also the alleviation of the mode instability through fiber bending method.
