Abstract

We demonstrate soliton-mediated alignment of gold nanorods in colloidal suspensions, leading to polarization-dependent transmission. We discuss orientation-enhanced birefringence and dichroism due to disorder-to-order transition of nanorods resulting from the torque exerted by the soliton beam.
