Abstract

Development of optical elements that enable tailored modification of the refractive index during exposure to high-power laser pulses provides opportunity to control laser coherence and focal-spot characteristics. Our approach is based on activation of induced and/or spontaneously generated defect centers in large-bandgap materials.
