Spawning Rings of Exceptional Points out of Dirac Cones

Abstract

We demonstrate that an accidental Dirac cone can evolve into a ring of exceptional points in a photonic crystal slab. Radiation fundamentally changes the band structure even though there is no material loss and gain.
