Abstract
Extending the wavelength of quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) into the near-IR is challenging and requires either wide-band gap materials or a novel design approach that is monolithic and appropriately wave-guided. In this work, we explore a novel approach that incorporates lasing and nonlinear conversion within the same QCL waveguided region using orientation-patterned substrates. The synthesis of these integrated devices is very complex and initial results from experiments are presented.
