Edged-Pumped Slanted Yb:YAG/YAG Thin Disk Laser

Abstract

In this work, we present a novel edge-pumped Yb:YAG /YAG thin disk laser using a crystal with slanted faces which is pumped by four non-symmetric hollow ducts in order to obtain uniformity and homogeneity of the pump light distribution inside the crystal. Using the method of Reciprocity we determined an optimal Yb+3-concentration in order to improve the absorption efficiency and the beam quality factor. In addition, we calculated the output power of the system by solving the rate equation taking into account the temperature-dependant emission cross section of Yb3+.
